| 4. | How many supplements (powder or pill) do you take? Posted by ALpianoman on 5/31/2005 6:44:55 AM I thought it would be interesting to see what people are taking. :)
Here is a list of what I take:
CLA
ThermoDynamx
Multivitamin
Flaxseed Oil (Pill)
Calcium (Pill)
Betagen (Creatine)
Cytovol (Glutamine)
And of course tons of water, and 6 meals a day. 4 "real" meals & 2 "snack" meals. My snack consists of a shake and a nutrition bar.

To be honest I really don't know, since you're nursing. I would talk to your doctor first to see if you can add supplements to your diet while you're nursing. If he gives you the ok, I would definitely start with a good Multivitamin, and Calcium. A lot of people, myself included, never did get enough viitamins and calcium. So that is definitely a start...

| 6. | Re: Hey Al Posted by ALpianoman on 6/16/2005 3:46:50 PM hi pt,
I was looking through the posts, and see that you asked me a question. It was in the middle of all the replys, and I didn't notice it. Sorry.
CLA (Conjugated Linoleic Acid) - is an occuring fatty acid found in Meat and Diary Products. Which can help promote fat loss. Since a lot of people don't get enough dairy in their diet, this is a good supplement to ... |
| 7. | Re: How many supplements (powder or pill) do you take? Posted by ALpianoman on 6/18/2005 7:10:20 PM I could give you my definition of flaxseed oil. But this website gives great information on it.

| 8. | Re: How many supplements (powder or pill) do you take? Posted by ALpianoman on 7/6/2005 10:16:55 AM Sounds like a good list of supplements there. I personally buy the pre-made shakes. It's just more convenient for me. i use to have a blender at work, but with my work schedule and meetings every day, it was hard for me to utilize it. It was easier to just go to the fridge, at work, take out a pre-made shake, and start drinking it.
Depending on where you buy it, you can get more bang for your buck by bing the box of Myoplex Powder.

| 9. | Re: Body for Life for Women book Posted by ALpianoman on 7/16/2005 7:07:53 PM I haven't read the book, so it's hard for me to comment. But I agree with you, macca. Physilogically, men and women are similar. Maybe there are different scientific advantages that women would have to take into account. But thousands of thousands of men and women have succeed with the original Body-For-Life.
I know Bill Phillips doesn't have his hands in EAS anymore. Maybe it's the same with Body-For-Life. I don't see why they had to put out another book when the ... |
| 10. | Re: sushi? Posted by ALpianoman on 5/30/2005 5:39:45 PM Are you talking Sushi, or Saki?
Because a lot of sushi (rolls) are mixed with mayo or some sort of sauce base, be careful. You want to stay away from the stuff that's high in fat. I would say, stay away from sushi until your free day.
Now if you mean Saki, that's different, since those are normally raw fish. Like Salmon. Those are ok. But because they're normally made with White Rice, be very careful with your portions.
I know if I get ... |
| 11. | Re: sushi? Posted by ALpianoman on 6/4/2005 12:21:07 PM Yes, I did mean Shashimi.
Saki is actually a Salmon piece of fish that is Shashimi. I said Saki, because that's what I always order. :)
Sake is the rice wine. |
| 12. | Re: fish oil? Posted by ALpianoman on 7/13/2005 10:19:45 AM hi mellangston,
Yes, fish oil wiill help, just like flax seed oil. It contains the Omega-3 acids just like Flaxseed oil. And I was the same way, when I first took Flaxseed oil pills. I felt bloated and gassy. I've cut down my dosage to 2 pills a day from 3. And I don't get that bloated feeling anymore.
Hope that helps,

| 13. | Re: Bar & Shakes Posted by ALpianoman on 7/26/2005 2:42:10 PM I usually get the Body For Life Ready To Drinks. I can get them online for $26 for 24 of them. Which lasts me about a month. So that's not to bad at a $1 a day.
Same with the Body For Life bars. I can get a box of 12 for about $13. So 2 boxes will last a month.

BFLTracker was a great site. Hopefully it will be up soon. It's just a site, somewhat like this one. You can post your before and after pictures, and see how others are progressing.

| 15. | Re: squats Posted by ALpianoman on 7/25/2005 6:45:39 AM The first time I ever did squats, my knees did the exact same thing. They cracked. I freaked out. But I was told by many people at the gym, and coach that was normal. After a few more times, the crackling sound went away. If you stick with squats the sounds will eventually go away once your body is use to it.
But if you don't want to do them, standing or walking lunges are always good too. You'll feel it the next day too!! ![]() |

| 18. | Re: cheese and cheese strings are a no no Posted by ALpianoman on 6/13/2005 9:43:53 PM Paige,
Just use your good judgement. Reduced Fat and Fat Free Cheese is ok. But don't make it a habit to eat it all the time. I use Fat Free Cheese with my sandwich. I don't see anything wrong with it.

| 19. | Re: can someone help me? Posted by ALpianoman on 7/23/2005 5:26:38 PM hi Kay,
It can definitely be a challenge to get those 6 meals in. Especially if the Myoplex Shakes aren't easy to get in your area. Just use your good judgement. You know the list of foods, just try and pick something from each group. You can definitely eat a piece of fruit and some nuts. Nuts are good source of nutrition, protein and fats. I like to have unsalted peanuts on hand, or some almonds if I get a little craving. I try to keep macadamia nuts for Sunday, those ... |
| 20. | Re: can someone help me? Posted by ALpianoman on 7/24/2005 9:04:50 AM hi Kay,
No we're all reading the same book. The original Body For Life books has a list of foods, given that nuts isn't on that list. But Body For Life has evolved soooo much since it first came out. If you visit the bodyforlife website, you'll notice on the list has grown 10x since the book came out. And on the list of healthy fats is, All Natural Peanut Butter. All that Peanut Butter is, is peanuts crushed up. ![]() |
| 21. | Re: A few questions Posted by ALpianoman on 7/29/2005 8:35:00 AM hi dwideas,
Welcome to the forum. It takes about 4-5 weeks before you start seeing results. And you don't have to reduce your calorie count. That first week menu is great. Just follow the portion sizes, and you'll be fine.
I think everyone, included myself, felt the exact same way you do right now. We've been told for so many years that in order to lose weight, you need to deprive your body, eat less, count calories, etc...
Then ... |
| 22. | Re: Help, extremely bad depressing day Posted by ALpianoman on 8/17/2005 1:30:18 PM We all have challenges in our life. This is just another challenege in life you'll have to over come.
But remember, you have a two-month old that thinks you're the best thing in the world. Use that to help you fight through this.

| 23. | Re: cardio ? Posted by ALpianoman on 6/12/2005 8:30:49 PM hi Jesttalkin,
I use an eliptical myself also. I hate treadmills, eventhough I'll use them every so many weeks. With a treadmill, my shins would go out before my lungs, so I've been using an eliptical lately.
My gym uses Lifetime fitness machines also. Unfortunately there isn't a BFL type program on there that I've seen. What I do is just keep the rpm/resistance at 1 speed. And just speed up myself every minute, following the BFL Cardio program.

| 24. | Re: sore Posted by ALpianoman on 7/6/2005 3:45:03 PM I wouldn't say that you need to do heavier weights. You can try to slow your movements a little more. But if you think you can up the weight a little, there's nothing wrong with challenging yourself. Just make sure you're not sacrificing form for that added weight. |
