Body-for-Life Explained

The Body-for-Life Program offers a comprehensive approach to weight loss and muscle gain.  First conceived by Bill Phillips in his best selling book Body-for-Life - 12 weeks to Mental and Physical Strength, the program has been helping people transform their bodies and minds for over a decade now.

While many programs focus on either diet or exercise, Body-for-Life emphasizes both equally.

The Body-for-Life Diet consists of eating small meals 6 times per day that include a portion of carbs and a portion of protein, where a portion is an amount equal to the size of your fist.  Vegetables should be included with at least a couple of the meals, and plenty of water should be consumed.  Body-for-Life also encourages a "free day" once per week where you can eat whatever you want.

Body-for-Life Exercise routines employ a High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) approach referred to as the High Point Technique (TM).  The technique is used for both Body-for-Life cardio exercise and for Body-for-Life weight training.  The workouts have the benefit of being short and efficient, but the intensity can take some getting used to.  The idea is to work your way up to a High Point, which is close to or equal to your best effort.  This cycle is repeated in intervals several times during each Body-for-Life workout.

Bill Phillips incorporates a 12 week timeframe into the program that he refers to as the Body-for-Life Challenge.  This gets participants focused and committed to the program from day 1.  The book displays many before and after transformation photos of participants who have completed the 12 week Body-for-Life Challenge.

A new book called Body for Life for Women was published recently as well, a decade after the original book.  With so many women having been successful with the original Body for Life Program, some would question the need to tinker with an already successful formula.  However, the Body for Life for Women book may hold value as an additional resource to the original Body-for-Life book for some.
